Our organisation`s philosophy and strategic direction is guided by the principles of Batho Pele, which are best encapsulated by the words “we belong, we care, we serve”. As changemakers we fully subscribe to the ideas and values espoused in this proudly South African framework. Batho Pele, a Sotho translation for ‘People First’, is an initiative to get public servants to be service orientated, to strive for excellence in service delivery and to commit to continuous service delivery improvement. It is a simple and transparent mechanism, which allows citizens to hold public servants accountable for the level of services they deliver.

Why reinvent the wheel when far superior ideas already exist? Business schools all over the world that teach courses on consumer and service oriented business models have adopted and included Batho Pele in their curricula, thus proving the practicality on the framework. The true genius and nobility of Batho Pele lies in its principles, which are aligned with the Republic’s inclusive and progressive Constitutional ideals, that include, but not limited to:

  • Promoting and maintaining high standards of professional ethics;
  • Providing service impartially, fairly, equitably and without bias;
  • Utilising resources efficiently and effectively;
  • Responding to people’s needs;
  • Encouraging citizens to participate in policy-making;
  • Rendering an accountable, transparent, and development-oriented public administration.
